WellPoint CEO Angela Braly Stepping Down Today

August 28, 2012 Angela Braly, the CEO of WellPoint, is stepping down. According to the LA Times, …WellPoint has repeatedly raised premiums on many families and small businesses by 10% or more. The nation’s second-largest health insurer runs Blue Cross plans in California and 13 other states and has more than 33 million customers nationwide…

Our analysis suggests that there are solutions that could save WellPoint $500 million if the plan investigated ways to reduce pharmacy claims, out of network claims, and in-network claims using novel new technologies and payor / provider claims network settlement solutions.

Would these solutions be enough to save Braly’s job?  We will never know, but such savings could favorably impact the bottom line of WellPoint.
